Women and Finance: Do You Have The Right Balance?
Women have been under served by financial services – and why this is changing?
Are women less likely to take financial risks/invest than men? If so, why?
When it comes to investing, women think and act differently than men. Women tend to focus more on non-financial goals. Many women are still in the dependency status and have an inherent lack of confidence that leads to anxiety, fear and stress over money. When they do invest, women often opt for lower risk investments. Recent research shows only 48% of women (aged 18-34) living with a partner said they were either ‘very’ or ‘reasonably’ confident in their long-term planning. This compares to 56% for men. Also, co-dependency on spousal partners pension is a significant factor, with women concerned that they could find themselves in severe financial crossroads in the event of failed marriages and relationships. There is also the issue of gender pay inequality, difficulties re-entering the workforce after a career break to raise a family, and finding it hard to adapt to a regular savings habit.
Where is the best place to start investing? Especially for those who are intimidated by the whole process?
Even though it may take a bit of research with women, the best place to start is with a trusted financial advisor who can guide you through step by step in understanding the complexities of investment strategies and how to optimize medium to long term returns.
I use a holistic approach in helping women to relieve anxiety and fear about investments and how to build an organic relationship with money through workshops and one to one meetings on how to find their true purpose. Once you understand your purpose it gives clarity and focus.
