How To Embrace Ageing As a Privilege

Getting older has become quite a scary scenario in the past decades, especially for women. We are expected to forever stay young or at least offer a convincing enough illusion to the general public. The pressure is enormous and it’s a legitimate road to Hell or at least to the pitfalls of mild to severe depression. All because we keep forgetting one little detail, and that detail is – the alternative. Yes, aging can seem scary, but the alternative is far more unsettling, right?

Like so many life dilemmas, this one can also be resolved by a simple change of perspective and a bit of care, love and tenderness for you in the form of right choices.

How many times have you heard the corny expression that “your body is your temple”? It’s not poetry, all right, but it does make a point. You only have this one and only body to carry you through your own, unique life journey so you might as well learn to appreciate it more.

And appreciation can only come after understanding.

To be able to support your body so that it could be beautiful and reliable and strong enough to support you the way you want to be supported, you need to learn to notice – and interpret – the little signals. But, above all, you need to become very particular about how you are treating your soul’s sacred container. Here are the 3 commandments to help you do that:

The very first commandment is simple: Let go of anything unnatural!

Whether you plan to eat it or smear it all over your body – if it contains anything artificial or dodgy (i.e. reeking of heavy chemistry!) on the list of ingredients – turn around and walk away! Read the labels and ye shall know the truth! Would you go and take a bath in a filthy sewer right behind a smelly factory or drink from it? Of course not.

The second commandment is clear: Explore the bounty of Mother Nature!

Everything we need is out there, we just need to return to those old and simple ways of nurturing our bodies in sync with the seasons. Why keep a huge can of some product or other stashed in your bathroom or kitchen, loaded with suspicious chemicals so it could last you for eternity – and possibly give you a nasty rash sooner or later! – when you can have a fresh doze of a carefully made organic potion that your body will enjoy – be it a lotion or a smoothie? It doesn’t matter if you’re putting them in or on your body, natural products will make you glow and your cells will forget about the passing of time, at least for a while.

The third commandment is tricky: Accept your actual body and own it!

This one might be the hardest to swallow for a modern day woman, all so insecure from swiping perfect imageries on social media newsfeeds, watching too much television and reading too many fashion magazines and seeing too many ads showing ‘perfection’ in the form of zero-size models with oversized lips and boobs. And instead of keeping it real – and healthy – a vast majority women everywhere are trying to keep up?!

It takes a lot of self-confidence and critical thinking to overcome these hurdles on your way to liberation.

But, once you’re there, life becomes a more profound experience.

Human body is both weak and strong, all at the same time. Learning to handle it with care is a lifelong mission, regardless of what may be the need of the moment. Sometimes it’s action, other times it’s staying still.

Once you realize your body is your champion that got you this far, you’ll better be able to say thanks in a language that it can understand and respond to. By extending your privileges further into the future.
